Let’s go to a N.C. Symphony Concert!

On Friday, Nov. 18th, the N.C. Symphony will be performing Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, one of the most beloved and recognized works in the repertoire!  The most famous movements are “Mars” and “Jupiter”, however, the other 5 movements are superb as well.  (Pluto was discovered 15 years after this work was written and Earth is not represented.)  We’ve performed some of the movements in both marching and concert band.  In addition to the outstanding music, I believe that the Symphony is going to have a video presented along with the music to enhance your musical experience!  Pretty far out, eh?

Attending a N.C. Symphony concert is really a cool experience - both entertaining and educational!  These 100+ musicians are the BEST at what they do - very comparable to the finest athletes in our world!   It is inspirational to observe the care and precision with which they perform.  I love observing how they move, watch the conductor, and I love the enormous range of expression that they are able to communicate - from the softest, most delicate passages to the strongest, most powerful statements.  It’s also fun to “dress up” and visit downtown Raleigh (concerts are held in Meymandi Hall in the Progress Energy Center).  For our older students, it makes a nice “date night”.

Average ticket prices to attend the symphony can be quite expensive; however, we can get a discount of $15 per person with our group order - this includes parents, siblings, friends, and our band members!  I will have a sign-up sheet posted in our band room for students to sign up; however, you can also let me know if you would like to attend by responding to this email.  Just give me a name and how many tickets that you would like me to hold.  For this concert, I will deduct the fee from band accounts if you would like to exercise that option - just let me know.  You can write any check made payable to “Athens Drive Band Boosters.”

As this concert is anticipated to be sold-out, please let me know by Friday,
Nov. 11th if you would like to attend.  The concert begins at 8:00pm and tickets will be at the “will call” window under my name or “Athens Drive Band.”  I’ll let you know more details closer to the date.

Gotta luv some Classical Music!
