Doc's Notes 3/28

Dear Athens Drive Band parent/student

Here are a few quick notes about the band "happenings" as of today, 3/28/19:

1) Our Winterguard and Winter Percussion will be performing for the Atlantic Indoor Association Championships in Fayetteville this weekend.  The Winterguard performs on Saturday and the Winter Percussion performs on Sunday.

2) Both of these groups will be performing a "friends & family exposition" in our school gym on Monday evening, April 1 at 7:00pm.  Please consider attending this FREE event.  It is a terrific way to enjoy some truly impressive art created by over 40 of our students!  I promise that you will be uplifted and very proud of their efforts!

3) Our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band both performed exceptionally well at our Band State Festival this past week held at Garner H.S.  While both groups were awarded the rating of "Excellent"--which is one degree under the top rating, I truly believe that this rating does not do justice to the artistry that they displayed at their developmental level with very high quality literature.  That said, it is fun to learn and grow, and that is truly what these kind of events are for.  We will continue to improve this healthy, positive, musical program.

4) Our Jazz Ensemble will begin 4th quarter rehearsals next Tuesday, April 2 with Dr. Parker.  All students who performed in the 3rd quarter are invited back for one more quarter of music making.

The weather is becoming more spring-like and spring-break is finally drawing nearer.  It's been a long winter... great things lie ahead!

Thank you for all your support!
