Chamber Music Dress Rehearsal and Concert next week

posted Sep 30, 2016, 1:22 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Sep 30, 2016, 1:22 PM ]

This letter is to serve as a reminder about our dress rehearsal and Chamber Music Concert next week.

Chamber Music Dress Rehearsal

Wednesday, October 5

*Unlike other dress rehearsals, students will only need to be at school during the time when their designated group(s) is rehearsing.  The specific schedule will be posted early next week. Most students will be on site for approximately 1.5 hrs.

Chamber Music Concert

Thursday, October 6

Students will report to the school at a time that allows them sufficient time to warm-up well and be prepared with their respective ensemble to perform.  Most students should be on campus by 7:00pm.

Although this concert will feature ALL the members of our Wind Ensemble - and a few members of our Symphonic Band - the band will not be performing primarily as a single group as we do at our other concerts.  Instead, this concert will feature the small ensembles that comprise the band (e.g., Flute Choir, Horn Choir, Woodwind Choir, etc.).  However, the concert will have the same sense of “formality” as our other concerts.  We will be wearing formal attire: Men will wear the tux shirt, tie, and cummerbund with black pants, socks, and dress shoes; Women will wear the black dress with black shoes and matching jewelry.  The concert will also be professionally recorded and videotaped.

The concept is simple:  By strengthening individual performers (which is what playing in a small ensemble does), you strengthen the group.  As Abraham Lincoln once famously said, “if you give me 3 hours to chop down as many trees as I could, I would spend the first hour sharpening the axe!”

I look forward to seeing you Thursday evening!

P.S. The Woodwinds and Brass of the Marching Band will NOT be rehearsing next Wednesday and Thursday. Percussion and Guard will rehearse TBA.

AND, all non-performers (in Concert Band and Symphonic Band) will receive EXTRA CREDIT for attending.
