We are very fortunate to have many terrific volunteers who serve the band - THANKS for sharing your time and talents to serve this incredible program.
Are you ready to jump into the fun? It’s EASY, fun and most of all, we need YOU!! There are lots of wonderful ways to help and support our fantastic band program. Here’s a brief description of some of our current volunteer needs:
TRIP PLANNER Co-Chair: Kimmie Jacobs and our awesome trip planner, Richard Spalding, of the past few years will be graduating this year. Work with Richard and Kimmie to help coordinate the Atlanta trip while you learn all the tips and tricks for planning a successful band trip. Richard and Kimmie will also start the ball rolling on many of the preparations for the Outback Bowl in Tampa in January but we need YOU to carry it into the end zone! Be part of the trip planning fun!
8th GRADE RECRUITING Chair/Co-Chair: Work with an established small team to create a complete recruiting package that can be used at our feeder middle schools. Coordinate parents and students to visit their former middle schools to recruit upcoming freshmen into the band program in May, particularly marching band.
CMAF – Cary Music & Arts Co-Chair: Work with senior mom Aleece Spalding and Michele Young to coordinate Athens’ role in the Sunday, April 23 Cary Music & Arts Festival.
NCFC (formerly RAILHAWKS) Co-Chair: This fundraiser is super popular with families since students can work through the summer with their parents (or other adults). We need Co-Chairs to jump on board with Sherry Skinner to learn the ropes to coordinate and keep this fundraiser going strong!
CONCERT ATTIRE Co-Chair: Work with junior mom Sharon Hader to assist organizing concert attire and attending to last minute details on performance days.
JAG CLUB REPRESENTATIVE: Have an athlete and regularly attend Jag Club meetings? We would love to have you represent the band’s interests at their meetings and relay any “band relevant” information to us from the Jag Club.
UNIFORM Co-Chair: Our terrific uniform team of Wendy Russell (senior), Caren Wood, Allison Lyles, and Laurin Allen would love to have another co-chair as Wendy graduates. In preparation for the marching season, the uniform team has tasks even in the spring and summer. Many hands make for light work! No sewing experience or uniform knowledge required – they will teach you everything you need to know!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 2017-18
MATTRESS SALE Co-Chair: Work with Angela Tripp and “The Mattress Guy” to coordinate the annual mattress sale held in November!
MARCHING BAND SENIOR RECOGNITION Co-Chair: Work with football and cheer parents to organize and recognize our marching band seniors during the senior night football game. This is the perfect job for rising Sophomore and Junior parents so that the senior parents can enjoy the evening!
Not sure which option best suits your talents and schedule? Talk to us and we’ll help you figure out the perfect opportunity!
Teamwork makes the dream work! When we all take a small part and work together, no one is overwhelmed and it’s incredible what can be accomplished! Help keep the Athens Band program strong and healthy for our students by volunteering!
