Day 1 - Band Camp 2017 - a note from Greg Fishel

Year 7 of the "Band Camp Hostage Crisis" for Mr. Fishel! Hopefully many of you are old enough to remember the historical event I just referenced. If you're too young to remember, I hate you! (just kidding!)

This was the nicest weather ever for opening day of band camp! Highs in the lower 80s with dew points in the 50s - are you kidding me, in Rocky Mount, NC on July 30?

Chaperones and their students started arriving around noon with the bulk of arrivals between 1pm and 4pm. For the first time I helped with check-in so I got to match names with faces! At 5pm we all gathered at the Dunn Center for a subway sandwich dinner, which was followed by a field rehearsal at 6pm without instruments. This was then followed by a sit down rehearsal with instruments on the stage back in the Dunn Center. At 10pm, the students organized games to help everyone to get to know each other. One such game featured someone purposely spinning in a circle only then to be nailed by a huge beach ball. Doesn't that sound like fun? Finally milk and cookies at the Dunn Center. So now it's a "Dunn deal" and we're off to the dorms with lights out at 12:30am.

Another beautiful day is on tap tomorrow with light "winds", "guarded" optimism, and no "repercussions”.

See ya tomorrow!
