Band Family Seeks Language Help

We have a band family that is hosting an exchange student from China.  He will be at Athens as a Junior this year and is playing alto sax with the marching band.  Stan has only been in America for 3 weeks and is slowly adapting to our culture, language and food.  Monday he will also be experiencing our high school environment!

Stan's biggest learning curve so far has been marching band.  Although he loves music (he plays the guitar, piano and saxophone), he cannot seem to understand why we have a marching band and why we love it so much.  The closest equivalent in mainland China is their military marching band (there are some school marching bands in Hong Kong).  School marching bands performing in competition and for games is not familiar to him.

We are reaching out to our band community to find a parent who speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and English to help us really communicate to Stan the band culture we have here at Athens.  The host family is David, Susan and Andrew Uy (little sister Angelina!) and they are asking for just 1 hour of your time, during a band practice after school or when is most convenient.

If you can help or know of someone who can, please contact Susan Uy directly - please check directory for e-mail information.

Thank you!
