Band Camp 2107 - Day 5 Greg Fishel

Our incredible luck with the weather continues, and I have absolutely nothing to do with it! Looks like we’ll get through the entire camp rain free. Rehearsals continued Thursday, and I was able to get some decent drone footage from about 110 feet above ground during the evening rehearsal. Kathy bought me a drone for Fathers Day, and I know just enough to be dangerous!

The next thing I share is not intended to create any drama, or to make any of you worry that your student might be doing something wrong…...but during the evening rehearsal, Doc got pretty frustrated at one point. There were several folks not paying attention, and as a result, the band was not performing up to its capability. Having known Doc over 6 years now, I can assure you that his speeches about values, the band being a family, dedication, etc are not "just words” - he really means it, right down to the last word. He doesn’t see Marching Band as just another high school class and/or activity, but one that teaches life skills that can benefit its members for years and years to come. He cares deeply about the program, and everyone involved in it, and when he sees kids not buying into that vision, it hurts. Doc believes fervently in his philosophy and approach, and he wants everyone to walk that path with him….he really cares about your children! OK, sermon over!

After the evening rehearsal, the students went to the Dunn Center to watch the movie Shrek, which they all seemed to enjoy seeing, even though in most, if not all cases, it was not the first time. Today, we tear down as much as possible before the performance tonight. As always, it has been a long but very productive and fun week!

See you tonight!
