Last Minute Reminders & Tips for Tomorrow

posted Nov 17, 2017, 6:59 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Nov 17, 2017, 7:00 PM ]

Dear Marching Band Parents & Students,
  1. With parade season starting and cold weather upon us, please make sure your student understands the importance of carrying their inhaler/epi pen/medicine with them at all times.  Whether at a competition, parade or a practice, their medicine could be up to ½ mile or more away from where they are.  Our parade route on Saturday is over 1.4 miles long. Our buses are parked somewhere at the end of the parade route, which we will NOT have access to.  Please help us keep your student safe by making sure they are proactive about their health. If your student doesn’t want to carry it in their uniform pocket, have them ask one of the medical chaperones to hold it for them in our first aid bag. If they chose to do so, it must be in a bag with their name written on the inhaler/epi-pen and the bag. Please help us keep them safe.
  2. Please make sure your student has a substantial breakfast tomorrow before coming to school. With arrival time at 8:15 and much to do before we leave for the parade they will need a lot of energy to walk 1.4 miles while performing. Doc estimates we will be back at school by 11:45-12:00.
  3. I wanted to share a parade tip that I used my freshman year. I am attaching a parade route map and have indicated the parking lot I used with a music note. The parking lot I am suggesting enables you to get to the parade early and avoid all the traffic that occurs once the parade is over. I believe it's still a free parking lot and also enables you to see the band in the beginning when they are coming down Hillsborough and then leave with little traffic to get back home/school. This is what I did: Drive up McDowell and go to the parking garage that is after Hargett Street (left entrance). Walk to the parade route by exiting the parking garage onto Dawson, walk up one block to Hillsborough. Our step-off time (when it's the bands turn to start marching) is approximately 10:45. As you can see by the map, the band's start point is only 4 blocks from there.
  4. COMPOSITE and INDIVIDUAL PICTURES:  Tricia Bristow from Just Smile Photography will be at the banquet to help with picture orders.  Order pictures of your individual student or she will also have a draft of the entire band’s composite picture for pre-orders!  If you would like to order digital files (a terrific deal and super easy), just bring a thumb drive and she will load them during the banquet!  Then you will be able to use/print any of the pictures anytime!  Have questions?  She’ll be there to help with anything you need.  To preview the pictures or order online, click here, type your email address, and enter the password:  ADHS Band
  5. FRUIT & NUT: The deadline for turning in your fruit & nut orders is tomorrow. Our fantastic fruit & nut team of Jennifer Wakeford and Laura Jefferson need to submit our order to secure the delivery date of Dec. 8th.
Spirit Wear:
Melanie Vtipil will have Band Christmas Ornaments and spirit wear available for purchase at the banquet tomorrow.  Stop by and stock up on some holiday gifts!
She will bring all her stock to the banquet for immediate purchase and will take orders for arrival before Christmas for anything we may not have in stock.

Band Ornament Information:
There will be a sample of each ornament displayed tomorrow.  They sell for $10.00 each with optional personalized engraving for $3.00 more.
Ornament Options (Ornaments are all made to order):
  1. Adventure Awaits:  Can include name on the back for $3.00 as well as a personalized message for $3.00
  2. ADHS Band Paw:  Same options as #1

*Engraving appears on the back of the ornaments.  No engraving available on the instrument ornaments.

TO ORDER:
Order at the banquet or email orders between 11/19/17 and 11/29/17 to spiritwear@athensdriveband.com.  When ordering, please include:
  • name
  • phone number

Outback Bowl Tentative Itinerary & IMPORTANT DISNEY TICKET INFO

posted Nov 17, 2017, 4:12 AM by Athens Drive High School Band

Attached you will find the tentative itinerary for the Outback Bowl Trip as it stands now. Please review it and note that your student will need money for 3-4 meals while on the trip, any souvenirs, snacks, and drinks.

Another very important item: The travel company is trying to get us our Disney’s Magic Kingdom ticket numbers 30 days before our trip. This will enable students to pre-select up to 3 Fast Pass rides starting Nov. 29th at 7:00 am.  We are traveling at the busiest time of year and having students Fast Pass some rides will reduce their time waiting in some lines. We are hoping to have each student’s ticket number by Nov. 27. Your student can be proactive now, by going to the https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/ to create their account. Once they have their individual account they can connect with their band friends on the family & friends page. When they get their ticket number they will be able to enter it into their already created account and be prepared for Nov. 29th. It is suggested that they pick one person from their group to log on to reserve their Fast Pass rides starting at 7:00 am on Nov. 29th. Remember they can reserve 3 rides in advance after they use all three at the park, they can use the app to add 1 more at a time, if available. * Disney suggests that no more than 20 people be in one group when trying to reserve a Fast Pass.

Please encourage your student to get started with this as soon as possible and communicate with their friends to decide their top 5 rides (in case some of their choices have already been taken). Also, it is suggested that since our departure time is tentatively 8 pm- DO NOT book any Fast Passes after 7 pm. These Fast Passes go quickly- especially around the holidays so plan now!

Please let us know if you have any questions.
Adventure Awaits!

THANK YOU to everyone who supported the Fruit and Nuts Fundraiser. We have orders trickling in every day.

Thank you to those who have emailed us, letting us know your order form is coming.
If you have orders to turn in, thank you! Please get them in as soon as possible. The HARD DEADLINE for turning in forms is the BANQUET
We will not be able to accept any additional orders after the banquet.

About 30% of the envelopes have been returned.  Please encourage your student to get their envelope in within the next day or two.  Even if nothing was sold, it still helps us account for everyone.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thank you,
Laura and Jennifer
