Car Wash Certificates Make Great Teacher and Grad Gifts! Get them at the concert tonight

posted by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated ]

Car wash certificates are great gifts for teachers and graduates!  Get them while they last!  Jennifer will be available in the lobby after tonight's concert if you'd like to purchase some.  Bring cash or check made out to Athens Drive Band Boosters.  Car wash certificates cannot be billed to your account.
Spring and summer are also great times to sell these certificates, and it's an easy way to put credit in your account for marching band and Outback Bowl expenses.  Buy a handful from the band, and your customers pay you directly.

Carolina Auto Spa gift certificates are an ongoing fundraiser that puts money in your band account.  Certificates are good for the Deluxe Wash at either Carolina Auto Spa location.  The cost is $24 each, and $8 goes to your band account.  Buy them for yourself or for gifts, or sell them to friends and neighbors.   Check out all the details under Fundraisers on the band website. Car Wash - Athens Drive High School Band.   Car wash certificates are also available any time by emailing us at carwash@athensdriveband.com.

See you at the concert!

BAND BOOKS ARE HERE!!

Did you request one of our extra books from me?  Please be sure to send $20 in cash or check (Athens Drive Band Booster) with your student tomorrow!
Didn't order a book but want one?  EMAIL me TONIGHT so I can hold a book for your student.  Let me know which you prefer (I have limited quantities - so be sure to indicate if you are OK with the next available option, if I run out of your first choice).  I will confirm via email which one is available :-)

$20 - First Run Book (best quality print, only 5 left!)
$15 - Second Run Hard Back Book (slightly darker print, with the hard cover upgrade, only 10 left!)

Atlanta - a few last things!

posted May 17, 2017, 8:56 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated May 17, 2017, 8:56 PM ]

Atlanta!  We can count the hours now until our departure!!!  Our plans have shifted slightly from the original itinerary.  Please use the updated Itinerary sent on Tuesday.  A few things to note:

REPORT TIME:  Yes, report time is 5:00am.  Departure is scheduled at 5:45 am so that we can make it to lunch at the iconic Varsity and tour the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke-a-Cola before dinner at Hard Rock Cafe!  It's a busy afternoon so please be on time.

SNACKS:  Friday, lunch is around 12:40 so be sure to eat or bring breakfast AND plenty of bus munchies to get you through the ride on Friday (and Sunday, too)!…but please eat wisely whilst traveling!

PERFORMANCE ATTIRE:  The dress for the Pep Band and Color Guard on Saturday at Six Flags is SHORTS and TENNIS SHOES with our uniform band polo shirt (distributed by chaperones to students on Friday night at the hotel).  We want everyone to be as comfortable as possible in the warm weather.  "What to wear" for the performance appears in multiple places (packing list, itinerary, etc.) - some mistakenly still say pants (sorry for the confusion - wear shorts!)

SUNSCREEN:  Saturday, we'll be outside most of the day so be sure to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and drink lots of water!

RAIN GEAR:  Forecast for Sunday looks cooler and rainy.  Be prepared with your rain gear!  We're exploring other options in case we have to skip Stone Mountain.

Happy Packing

2017-18 Marching Band Interest & Orientation Meetings

posted May 16, 2017, 5:31 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated May 16, 2017, 5:32 AM ]

2017-18 Marching Band Interest & Orientation Meetings

Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16
Band Room from 6:30-8:30 pm

Who should attend?

·     Current Marching Band Students who will march in the fall:  Meet potential incoming freshmen and rookies to recruit for your section!  Wear tennis shoes, comfortable clothes and a smile!  Bring your marching instrument!

·     Potential Marching Band Students:  Have a friend at Athens or know a rising freshman who may be interested?  Bring them!  Bring a positive attitude, wear your tennis shoes and athletic attire, and bring your instrument, if you have one.

-  Play an instrument (whether in class band or not)?  Great!  Bring it!  Don’t have an instrument or use a school instrument?  No problem – we’ll hook you up!

-  Interested in dancing?  Twirling flags?  Flipping rifles?  Wonderful!  Come learn about the Color Guard – We train, no experience necessary!

-  Percussion experience or play the piano?  Fantastic!  Come audition for our percussion group!

·     Current Marching Band Parents and Committee Chairs:  Bring your positive and welcoming attitude to mingle with potential incoming freshmen and rookie parents and let them know about our awesome band program! Encourage other parents you know to bring their rising freshmen or current Athens students to learn all about marching band.  It’s always nice to have members of our current band family to welcome and encourage new members!  Committee Chairs - this is a simple and high level overview of the Marching Band Program to encourage people to sign up for Marching Band so just come if you can/would like to spread the band energy and enthusiasm as well as to meet and mingle with potential incoming parents.

·     Potential Marching Band Parents:  Have a student interested in marching in the fall?  Attend this meeting to learn all the important details, understand what to expect, answer all your questions, and meet other new and current band families!

Do I need to attend both nights?

·     Wind and Brass:  Need only attend one orientation day but are welcome to attend both (and many do – it’s a lot of fun!)

·     Color Guard or Percussion:  Please attend both orientation dates. Additional guard clinics and percussion auditions will be held on Monday May 22 and Tuesday May 23.

What happens at the Interest and Orientation Meeting?

·     Introduction:  Director Dr. Jerry Markoch (Doc) will give an overview of the program to students and parents to help everyone understand his basic philosophies and what marching band is all about.  After Doc’s introduction, students and parents will separate:

·     Students - Marching Basics:  The Student Marching Band Leadership team and current students will work with potential students by instrument section to teach marching basics in a casual, relaxed and most importantly, F-U-N atmosphere!  This hands-on approach will help interested students understand what marching band is all about and let them start forming new friendships with our 150 member marching band!

·     Parents – Information Session:  This relaxed and informal information session will help new parents understand some of the details about marching band (including how to get information, time commitment, costs, how to get involved, etc.), what to expect, answer questions, and meet other new and current band families!

Spread the word about the Orientation sessions to potential families and we hope to see our warm and welcoming band family there!
