Important Information about Band Camp

posted Jun 26, 2020, 9:16 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jun 26, 2020, 9:16 AM ]

Athens Band families,

Last night the Athens Band Booster Board met with Doc and we have decided that we will not be able to have band camp at N.C. Wesleyan this year.  Because of the extension of Phase 2 of Covid 19 restrictions, we just do not feel that we can put off this decision any longer.  This is disappointing news for all of us and we think you all know that we held off making this decision for as long as we could in hopes that we would be able to go away to camp. Our camp experience is a very special tradition and we did not come to this decision lightly.

However, we now have a chance to make some new traditions and our band family is known for making the best of whatever comes our way.  We are sure you have many questions about what will come next.  Unfortunately, we still don’t have many answers. Here is what we are thinking right now:

Doc hopes to keep our schedule, with all events happening at Athens Drive rather than N.C. Wesleyan. This is of course dependent on government and Wake Co. school restrictions allowing us to do so.

Pre-Camp on July 20-23 from 6:30-10 pm
Parent meeting and booster fair on the 21st at 6:45 pm
Camp July 26—gather on the Sunday afternoon/evening
July 27-31— schedule will likely be 9-9 with breaks for lunch and dinner (for the most part students will have to bring their own meals and water bottles) There will be a performance for parents on the evening of the 31st.

We will pass along more details as quickly we are able.  Mr. Mares is very supportive of our band and helping us access as many fields as possible so that we can spread out and rehearse similar to the way we do it at camp.  We also have a team of parents working on safety precautions, screening procedures and other information chaperones and parents will want to know so they feel safe bringing their students to camp.

Cost of Marching Band
Marching band will cost less this year. Although we will not have to pay N.C. Wesleyan, we will still incur costs associated with camp.  We are hoping to provide a couple of meals and we will be purchasing lots of supplies associated with Covid-19 preparations. We will have a better idea of the cost of marching band by mid July.

If you have any further questions at this time, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Athens Drive Marching Band Registration is Open

posted Jun 3, 2020, 7:21 AM by Athens Drive High School Band

Athens Drive Marching Band Registration is up and running.

Sign up for our band by filling out the online Marching Band Registration Form.  The deadline is June 19th!

Some important notes about registration and band camp:
  1. We are requesting a $100 registration fee; however, this may be amended/waived for families struggling economically with the COVID-19 impact.  In a worst-case scenario in which we are unable to have Marching Band this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, registration fees will be refunded to all accounts that are paid in full.
  2. We will only travel to N.C. Wesleyan for Band Camp if a) we are permitted to do so by following WCPSS and NC guidelines; AND b) the vast majority of students/parent chaperones can attend. We realize that even with the restrictions lifted, we may have some students/families that are not comfortable with spending that week away from home.  The first question in registration concerns your willingness to send your child away to band camp this year.
  3. The Final Day to Sign-up for Marching Band is JUNE 19.  All students must register for Marching Band by this date by filling out the online Marching Band Registration Form. After this date, we will submit our numbers to our drill writer who will choreograph our show.  Please note that we cannot add members once the show has been written.
  4. All students interested in playing percussion must also contact our instructor, John Antonelli at for information needed to assign parts.  John may provide some “remote instruction” and ask the students to submit a video of their work so that he can determine skill levels.  Please contact John as soon as possible as he is in the process of writing the music for our show!
  5. All students interested in joining color guard must also contact our instructor, Jennifer Harris at for information regarding securing flags, rifles, and sabre.  Jennifer (who goes by “Mason”) may provide some “remote instruction” and ask the students to submit a video of their work so that she can determine skill levels.  Please contact Mason as soon as possible as we need to get costumes/flags ordered in June for the fall season.
Please let us know if you have any questions!

Need help setting up your account? Contact Martha Harris at

Not sure what Scrip is? Well, I am happy and excited to tell you all about it!

Why am I so passionate about the Scrip program?  Is it because the band program makes money off of your Scrip purchases?  No!  100% of the rebates go directly into YOUR band account.  I  encourage all band families to use Scrip because I know the real value of the program.  You can easily make hundreds of dollars every year for your band account!  If you want more information about how to effectively use Scrip to earn big $$, contact me and I'll be happy to help.

Scrip cards (and grocery cards) are the only band fundraisers that put your every day spending dollars to work – FREE MONEY!!!  This email contains information about the Scrip Program and how it can positively change the balance on your band account.  If you would like a flyer that has information about the Scrip program and some helpful hints and tips for using the program and placing orders, please send me a message at

WHAT IS SCRIP?  Great Lakes Scrip Center offers gift cards to over 700 of the country’s biggest brands, including grocery, department stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, home improvement, and more. Just by using Scrip to pay for your normal purchases, you can easily bank money to your student band account. It’s time to put your shopping dollars to work! A complete listing of participating companies is available at

HOW DOES IT WORK?  Scrip cards are regular gifts cards that you purchase at face value.  The retailer then gives a rebate, usually between 2%-14% of the face value, directly into YOUR band account.  For example, if you purchased a $100 Belk gift card, you pay $100 for the card and have $100 to spend at Belk.  Then Belk donates 8% ($8.00) to your band account.  Free Money!  You will be amazed and astounded at how quickly it adds up simply by spending money “differently” through Scrip.

WHAT TYPE OF GIFT CARDS ARE AVAILABLE?  Scrip has three different options for purchasing gift cards.  Many companies offer all 3 gift card options but the options available vary by company.

1. Physical Gift Cards:  We order these as a Band group about once a month.  You order these cards online any time during the month then a Band group order is submitted, typically a week before our monthly band parent meetings.  You can either pay for your cards at the time of ordering using the PrestoPay service or by delivering a check prior to the group order placement.  See below for details on payment methods.  You will receive an email about one week in advance of order placement as a reminder.  A few days later we receive the group’s gift cards and distribute them to you, usually at the monthly Band Booster meeting.  Physical gift cards are great for gifts or for planned (and controlled) spending.

2. ScripNow E-Card:  Make purchases online or at a physical store or have a meal at a restaurant but hop over to the Scrip website before you pay.  Buy a ScripNow gift card with PrestoPay to use as payment for your purchases.  These cards are available for you to use within minutes of purchase.

3. Reload:  With re-loadable physical gift cards, you have the flexibility to add money to the gift card anytime using PrestoPay!  These gift cards work well for places you regularly shop.  Note that not all physical gift cards are reloadable.  You will know it's reloadable if the Reload option is available.
GETTING STARTED:  Set up your own personal account at and link to the Athens Drive Band Boosters with the enrollment code 3BDECC2F2L1L.  Feel free to contact me if you have problems and I will help you through the process.
PrestoPay:  This is the preferred and easiest method of payment.  It is Scrip's secure service to purchase gift cards by using funds directly from your bank account.  Set up PrestoPay from your Scrip account on the website.
Check:  Make your check out to ADHS Band Boosters and deliver it to me before the order date to be included in the monthly order.
Credit Card: Choose "Credit Card" at check out. Visa and Mastercard accepted. Fees may be applied.

CURRENT SPECIALS:  In addition to offering great contributions on every day gift cards, Scrip runs specials and flash sales on a regular basis.  This means that a retailer's usual rebate percentage is temporarily increased.  For example, The Gap may increase it's normal rebate of 14% to 18%.  Also, a few times a year, Scrip has a ThankScripping Day.  This is a day where many, many retailers have increased rebates for that day only.  Take advantage of these specials!  Even if you don’t “need” anything right now, you can purchase cards ahead of time that you know you will use in the future.  Set up your Scrip account so that you receive email alerts for active specials.  Check out the "What's New" tab to see all the recent listings.
Any questions, please send to

Happy Scripping!

Band Book, Coping with COVID and senior shout outs

posted Apr 12, 2020, 12:25 PM by Athens Drive High School Band

Hello Band Families!

The next couple of days may be a bit dreary - which is perfect for everyone to contribute to two special projects for our Band Yearbook.

Deadline for special project photos: Saturday, April 18th.
Deadline for ordering Band Yearbook:  Saturday, April 25th
(Note:  Your band yearbook can now be mailed directly to your home.  Treering has reduced shipping costs to just $2.99 each.   Update your account with your mailing address in order to have your book mailed directly.  Any books not updated will be sent to school - and held there until you can pick them up).

As we are all dealing with the restrictions that physical distancing due to COVID-19 has placed on us....impacting not only school but band, friends and family - lets also remember how we are making ourselves stronger.  There will be a special page in our Band Yearbook to highlight this very extraordinary time in all our lives.   I'm hoping you can contribute to its pages!  Please email me ANY photos you may have of how you and your family have dealt with physical distancing.  Do you Zoom?  Send a picture of a Zoom with your band friends, band parents?  Seniors getting together?  Winter Guard or Percussion having a Zoom or Discourse meeting?  How about a picture of an activity you and your family have done to break up your day? Solve a puzzle, go for walks, take on a new project?

Our band seniors may have missed a few milestones - like prom and spring banquet (hopefully not Graduation!) but they can still be featured in our Senior Shout-Out page in the Band Yearbook.  Send me a baby picture and "grown up" picture (or just a grown up picture) of your senior, you can even add a nice surprise message - and it will be included in the Band Yearbook.

All the best to everyone!!

A Year of Band Memories!

posted Apr 1, 2020, 4:21 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Apr 1, 2020, 4:22 AM ]

Hello Band Families,

I hope this email finds you all safe at home with your loved ones. Although so much in our lives has been disrupted, we also find ourselves living at a much slower pace.  There's more time for family and home projects and for missing our dear friends at school and band!   What was your favorite memory from band?  Was it band camp or home games?  Something from Winter Guard or Winter Percussion?  Or performing at the holiday concert?  Hope it makes you smile too thinking of all the fun and friends from our year of band!

We have been collecting memories such as these in our SmugMug gallery - with photos and videos throughout the year.  Be sure to visit our 2019-2020 gallery here:

If you like a photo, you can download it - free - as many as you like!  Which is a great idea - because the Band Yearbook is soon going to print.  You are getting this email to remind you it's time to order the Band Yearbook - don't miss out getting your copy of a year's worth of band memories!  Visit our Band Book page to click the link to order:
  • Don't forget to finish your 2 PERSONAL pages - just for your book!!
  • SIGN YOUR FRIENDS YEARBOOK - directly on Treering - and it will print to their book! (Send a photo or sticker when you "sign" a friends yearbook!  Visit: to learn more!)
  • Books may be shipped direct to your home for $2.99 - depending on our expected return to school. Correctly, we are still set up to receive free bulk shipping to school.  If this changes, I will let you know.
And finally, if you find that you have some free time - I could use your help finalizing our book.  Many band parents have helped organize a page or two.  I still need your help - we have so many great pictures and pages!  So this is a shout-out to our seniors as well as our band parents, can you help put the finishing touches on this exceptional year?  Please email me at and let me know!

We will see each other again soon!!
