Dear Marching Band Families,

We’re having a wonderful time at camp and working very hard on our “Once Upon a Time” show.

You are welcome to join us at our evening rehearsal on Wednesday night, July 28th, from 6pm-8.30pm on the main field (you’ll see the tents!)

Your camper will not have much time to visit with you during rehearsal or before moving onto our evening activities - but you may get a hello & a hug if you’re lucky!.

Bring a chair (& bug spray) & enjoy watching these amazing students work at their craft.

Thanks,

Laurie & Ashley

URGENT CALL FOR HELP WITH NCFC

posted Jul 28, 2021, 7:38 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 28, 2021, 7:44 AM ]

ADHS Band Families, there is an NCFC soccer game on 7/31/2021 and there is a desperate need for volunteers for the concession stands!

IF we can get 10 adults (non-students) and 7 students signed up to work for this event, the pay will be $30 per person! (Our normal pay rate for these events is $25 per person.) But we must fill all those spots - with students, parents, families, friends, and alumni! (No pets, though - sorry!) students must be at least 14 years old.

Please consider volunteering to help with this event! All funds earned will be credited to the band accounts of volunteers.

Event report time is 5:00 pm. What to wear & expect details can be found on the band website, http://www.athensdriveband.com/fundraisers/north-carolina-fc

OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

posted Jul 14, 2021, 9:02 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 14, 2021, 9:04 PM ]

Hi band families!

The countdown to camp has begun and we still need your help to get ready! There are several big opportunities to pitch in coming up soon. Please read the information below and let us know if you can lend a hand!

Practice Field Work Day

We are still looking for 10-15 volunteers (can be both supervised band students and parents) to help with practice field preparations. With enough people we should be able to knock it all out before it gets too hot!

When: Saturday, July 17th at 8AM (rain date Sunday 7/18 at 8AM)

Where: Athens Drive Practice Field

What to bring: Weed trimmers, leaf blowers, work gloves and water

Goals: Clear field, measure and mark for striping, trim around poles, treat fire ants

Load Big Blue for Camp

When: Friday, July 23rd at 5:30PM

Where: Band Parking Lot

We will be loading the truck from the cage so we will need at least 8-10 folks to help. We will have everything pre-staged in the band hallway so this should go relatively quickly. The truck driver will pick up early Saturday morning and meet us at Rocky Mount.

Band Camp Set Up

We need your help getting the facilities at Rocky Mount ready for our marchers!

When: Saturday, July 24th at 10AM

Where: NC Wesleyan College, Rocky Mount NC

Saturday Set up: We plan on assigning "team tasks" to get as much done as possible before it gets too hot. Also, let me know if there is something in particular you like to do (i.e., tents, marking fields) so we can plug you into the right group!

Overnight set up: There are several volunteers planning on staying Saturday night and helping Sunday morning as well and that is great! If anyone else would like to join that group, please let us know ASAP so we have enough rooms. If you are staying for the week, we will try and put you in the room you will be in for camp.

Contact me via email, text or phone if you can help our Operations team prepare for precamp or camp set up! Thanks in advance!

Hi Band family!

With pre-camp and band camp coming up soon, it's time to get our practice field in shape! We are having a work day and need 10-15 volunteers (can be both supervised band students and parents) to help out. With enough people we should be able to knock it all out before it gets too hot!

When: Saturday July 17th at 8AM (rain date Sunday 7/18 at 8AM)

What to bring: Weed trimmers, leaf blowers, work gloves and water

RSVP to Gregg Cowan at vpoperations@athensdriveband.com

We'll be working to:

1. Blow off any remaining tall grass clippings (grass will already be cut)

2. Measure and mark practice field lines/numbers

3. Weed/trim around all poles

4. Look for and treat for ants

I would also like to put a field committee together and build out a mowing/field marking schedule, so please consider that as well and let me know if you have any interest!

Thanks so much!

Marching Band Pre-Camp Chaperones

posted Jul 14, 2021, 8:56 PM by ai mc   [ updated Jul 14, 2021, 8:56 PM ]

Hello Dear Marching Band Parents,

It's that time again!! Woohoo!! Time for Marching Band Pre-Camp! Pre-camp MB practices will start as of Monday, July 19th from 6:30pm-10pm and WE ARE IN NEED OF MANY willing parents to CHAPERONE our MB group.  The signup schedule is up to date; however we ask for your flexibility and understanding as protocols/schedules may need adjustments.

This is such a pleasant way to serve the band. Bring your lawn chair and a water bottle and watch this year’s marching band take shape. You just need to report to the band hallway to find out where the kids will be practicing.

We will share any updates that we receive concerning any safety protocols as we receive them.  There may be some changes about how we manage water breaks. Also, specific instructions will be given as to what to do if a student feels ill during practice.

Save your spot and thank you in advance for signing up so that our MB runs smoothly.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at  chaperones@athensdriveband.com

We look forward to meeting you freshmen parents and can’t wait to catch up with all the rest of you!!

Band Camp Set up / Early Arrivals / Big Blue

posted Jul 14, 2021, 8:49 PM by ai mc   [ updated Jul 14, 2021, 8:51 PM ]

Hi Band Family! I hope everyone is looking forward to a nice long holiday weekend! Just a few updates on Band Camp:

1. Set up: We are planning to set up at NC Wesleyan at 10 AM (tentatively) on July 24th and need as many extra hands as possible, so please let me know if you can come help so we can get a good roster and come up with a game plan. Once I have a good list, I plan on assigning "team tasks" to get as much done as possible before it gets too hot. Also, let me know if there is something, in particular, you like to do (i.e., tents, marking fields) so we can plug you into the right group!

2. Early arrivals for set up: There are several volunteers planning on staying Saturday night and helping Sunday morning as well and that is great! If anyone else would like to join that group, please let us know ASAP so we have enough rooms. If you are staying for the week, we will try and put you in the room you will be in for camp.

Also, there are some band students (or other older siblings) who are interested in coming early to spend the night and help with set up. Students interested in spending Saturday night will need pre-approval and MUST BE ACCOMPANIED OVERNIGHT BY AT LEAST ONE PARENT. The parent is responsible for them at all times on Saturday and Sunday prior to the standard afternoon band check-in. We will be winging it for meals so be aware of that as well and make sure your kids know we are there to work (although it will be lots of fun)!

3. Big Blue: We will be loading the truck on Friday the 23rd at 5:30 PM from the cage so we will need at least 8-10 folks to help. We will have everything pre-staged in the band hallway so this should go relatively quickly. Ken will pick up early Saturday morning and meet us there.

More info to come but let us know ASAP if you can come for set up and/or plan on staying the night!

Thanks so much! Gregg

Fundraising - NCFC

Band Families,

The May games for the NCFC Fundraiser have been posted on the NCFC signup. You may also reach the signup by going to http://www.athensdriveband.com clicking on the orange "Volunteer Signups" button, and scrolling down to the NCFC Signups link. More information regarding the games can be found on the signup, and also by going to the NCFC webpage of the band's website.

Working these games together with family and friends is a great way to earn money for your band account(s), especially during the summer! Each person earns $20 per person, per game, so a family of 4 can earn $80 for working a 4 hr game.

Don't wait too long to sign up - these spots can close quickly.  Please contact us at ncfc@athensdriveband.com with any questions.

Thanks!
