Hello Band Families!

We are about to start Week 2 of Post-Camp already and the first day of school will be here before you know it! This is the perfect time to continue or begin using the Scrip Program and adding funds to your student's band account! Be sure to check out current bonuses for back to school shopping at

If anyone is wondering "what is a Scrip Program?", there is an introduction and additional information farther down in this message.  :)

Our next SCRIP order for physical gift cards is coming up on Tuesday, August 27th!  Please submit your order by Tuesday at midnight.  The order should be ready for pick up at "Meet the Teacher" night, September 5th.  Look for Martha and the Scrip sign near the Band Room.  Contact Martha at the Scrip email address (  if you need to pick them up at a different time.

Remember that this order is for physical gift cards.  ScripNow e-gift cards can be ordered at any time.  Please note that PrestoPay is the easiest way to pay for your scrip orders. Let me know if you need help setting this up. If you selected to pay by check, your checks need to be delivered to me by August 26th or your order will not be placed.  There is a shipping charge of $8.50 that is split between all the order families.  It is usually around $1-$2. (Coming later in August - pay with your Mastercard or Visa!)

Order Schedule for 2019-2020 School Year:

August 27th (available for pickup at Meet the Teacher night)

November 14th (available for pickup at Marching Band Banquet)

December 10th (Last minute holiday shopping! Available for pickup at Grand Holiday Concert)

March 10th (available for pickup at Festival Concerts)

May 12th (Last minute graduation shopping! Available for pickup at Spring Concerts)

Additional special orders may be placed by contacting me to make arrangements for shipping and pickup!

Why am I so passionate about the Scrip program?  Is it because the band program makes money off of your Scrip purchases?  No!  100% of the rebates go directly into YOUR band account.  I  encourage all band families to use Scrip because I know the real value of the program.  You can easily make hundreds of dollars every year for your band account!  If you want more information about how to effectively use Scrip to earn big $$, contact me and I'll be happy to help.

Scrip cards (and grocery cards) are the only band fundraisers that put your every day spending dollars to work – FREE MONEY!!!  This email contains information about the Scrip Program and how it can positively change the balance on your band account.  If you would like a flyer that has information about the Scrip program and some helpful hints and tips for using the program and placing orders, please send me a message at

Great Lakes Scrip Center offers gift cards to over 700 of the country’s biggest brands, including grocery, department stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, home improvement, and more. Just by using Scrip to pay for your normal purchases, you can easily bank money to your student band account. It’s time to put your shopping dollars to work! A complete listing of participating companies is available at

HOW DOES IT WORK?  Scrip cards are regular gifts cards that you purchase at face value.  The retailer then gives a rebate, usually between 2%-14% of the face value, directly into YOUR band account.  For example, if you purchased a $100 Belk gift card, you pay $100 for the card and have $100 to spend at Belk.  Then Belk donates 8% ($8.00) to your band account.  Free Money!  You will be amazed and astounded at how quickly it adds up simply by spending money “differently” through Scrip.

WHAT TYPE OF GIFT CARDS ARE AVAILABLE?  Scrip has three different options for purchasing gift cards.  Many companies offer all 3 gift card options but the options available vary by company.

1. Physical Gift Cards:  We order these as a Band group about once a month.  You order these cards online any time during the month then a Band group order is submitted, typically a week before our monthly band parent meetings.  You can either pay for your cards at the time of ordering using the PrestoPay service or by delivering a check prior to the group order placement.  See below for details on payment methods.  You will receive an email about one week in advance of order placement as a reminder.  A few days later we receive the group’s gift cards and distribute them to you, usually at the monthly Band Booster meeting.  Physical gift cards are great for gifts or for planned (and controlled) spending.

2. ScripNow E-Card:  Make purchases online or at a physical store or have a meal at a restaurant but hop over to the Scrip website before you pay.  Buy a ScripNow gift card with PrestoPay to use as payment for your purchases.  These cards are available for you to use within minutes of purchase.

3. Reload:  With re-loadable physical gift cards, you have the flexibility to add money to the gift card anytime using PrestoPay!  These gift cards work well for places you regularly shop.  Note that not all physical gift cards are reloadable.  You will know it's reloadable if the Reload option is available.

GETTING STARTED:  Set up your own personal account at and link to the Athens Drive Band Boosters with the enrollment code 3BDECC2F2L1L.  Feel free to contact me if you have problems and I will help you through the process.

PrestoPay:  This is the preferred and easiest method of payment.  It is Scrip's secure service to purchase gift cards by using funds directly from your bank account.  Set up PrestoPay from your Scrip account on the website.
Check:  Make your check out to ADHS Band Boosters and deliver it to me before the order date to be included in the monthly order.
Credit Card: Coming in late August, ShopwithScrip will begin taking credit card payments (Visa and Mastercard).

CURRENT SPECIALS:  In addition to offering great contributions on every day gift cards, Scrip runs specials and flash sales on a regular basis.  This means that a retailer's usual rebate percentage is temporarily increased.  For example, The Gap may increase it's normal rebate of 14% to 18%.  Also, a few times a year, Scrip has a ThankScripping Day.  This is a day where many, many retailers have increased rebates for that day only.  Take advantage of these specials!  Even if you don’t “need” anything right now, you can purchase cards ahead of time that you know you will use in the future.  Set up your Scrip account so that you receive email alerts for active specials.  Check out the "What's New" tab to see all the recent listings.
Any questions, please send to

Happy Scripping!

Senior Button Crafting

posted Aug 11, 2019, 3:03 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Aug 11, 2019, 3:04 PM ]

Hello Band Families!

We have an annual tradition within our band community to help families celebrate having a senior in marching band.  It's the ultimate "shout-out" in the form of a Senior Button!  Proud pops, moms, and guardians are given these special keepsakes to wear at football games and competitions.  Imagine a hand-crafted, one of kind, Go Jags! - orange and blue decorated, button that has the photo of your one of kind senior!

To make it happen, we usually ask senior families to NOT participate so our freshman, sophomore and junior parents can surprise them instead.  However, it is a fun night of crafting, snacking and if you are a parent of senior and you don't want to miss this fun night - you can still be surprised by NOT creating your own senior button and working on someone else's instead :-)

Rather than send an overly large group Evite to the entire Band Yahoo list, I would like to ask instead if anyone is interested.  Please reply if this is you!

YES - I want to know when and where for Senior Button Night!
Contact - Susan Uy
Indicate preference: Tues / Wed / Thur evening (or all)

We are hoping to host this special event the 2nd or 3rd week of September.

Thank you!

NCFC Double Header Added to Schedule

posted Aug 8, 2019, 4:30 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Aug 8, 2019, 4:30 AM ]

Band Families,

The NCFC Fundraiser has added a double header international game for Thursday, August 15. They have increased the pay to $45 per person if you sign up to work both games. The normal pay rate of $20 per person will be applied if you sign up to work a single game. We are suggesting that workers signed up in student slots for the double shift be at least 15 years old so they don't become too tired. For single games, workers signed up in student slots must be at least 14 years old, or very responsible middle school students (13+) may work if parent (or adult responsible for them) is working. We are asked to provide a ratio of at least 1 adult to 2 students.

The game is posted on the NCFC signup.  You may also reach the signup by going to and clicking on the orange "Volunteer Signups" button, and scrolling down to the NCFC Signups link.  More information regarding the games can be found on the signup, and also by going to the NCFC webpage of the band's website.

This is a great opportunity for families to earn more money for band accounts.  Please contact us at with any questions.

Band camp is now over and your students are working hard on their performance.  Please make sure to keep selling those coupon books to help pay for their band account.
Remember each book sold puts $10 into your students band account (10 Books = $100) and if you sell the new bundle of both the physical book and the mobile app, that puts $15 into your account.

Please note - if any books you have are misprinted (missing pages), please contact us to have the books switched out.

If you need more books to sell or have any questions please contact or one of us will be at school at Tuesday & Wednesday practices.

Update on Jim Merchant

posted Aug 6, 2019, 6:46 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Aug 6, 2019, 6:47 AM ]

We would like to update you regarding our dear friend and fellow alumni parent, Jim Merchant (Kristen ‘10 & Logan ‘15). Melissa & Jim have been gracious hosts for most of our alumni parent holiday gatherings.

Jim had an ankle and talus bone replacement November 13.  After Christmas, the joints became infected. The infection eventually resulted in removal of his ankle and talus bones in March.  In June,  a 12” rod was installed through the heel of his foot with an 20” bolted attachment (affectionately called, "Gizmo") on the outside of his leg. On Father's Day, Jim suffered a stroke which has affected his speech and right side of his mouth.  He is currently in speech therapy which seems to be helping.  Then again in late July, Jim suffered another stroke. The second stroke has affected the first 3 fingers on his right hand and is requiring OT.  Gizmo was finally removed last week!  Jim and Melissa’s kids are doing a great job supporting them with meals and errands.

The family has asked for prayers, calls, cards or messages to help keep Jim’s spirit up. Please refer to Yahoo! e-mail for Jim's address & cell number.   Jim is also on Facebook and has Facebook messenger. If you have time, please send some positive energy Jim’s way.
