The Athens Band Semi Summer - $20K in 20 Days Kick Off!

posted Jul 20, 2017, 6:36 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 20, 2017, 6:39 AM ]

The Athens Band Semi Summer - $20K in 20 Campaign is Now On!

We are looking to raise $20,000 in 20 days - July 20 to August 8, 2017 - to purchase a Semi-Trailer.  TOGETHER, we can create this 18-wheel legacy for the band! All it takes to reach this goal is 200 families donating $100 each!  The Athens Band program has touched and affected many people in the program and community!  We all need to “band" together and do two things:

  1. Donate to the cause!  Your donation through this campaign or ADAF will be 100% tax deductible!  Every donation counts, no matter how big or small!  Donate individually or work with a group of your section, class, neighbors, friends, and co-workers to pool your resources so you can donate more together.
  2. Spread the Word!  Help your family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers understand what the Athens Drive Band Program means to you and your family by sharing the link to this campaign on your social media and encouraging them to donate along with you!
With a Marching Band consistently 150 + members strong, there’s a lot of “stuff” to haul for band events, including fall competitions and the Outback Bowl in Tampa Florida on January 1, 2018.  The past few years, we have been renting a truck that our awesome band dads spend countless hours outfitting (then tearing down) weekly to efficiently haul all the band’s “stuff”, including everything from uniforms and instruments to props and guard equipment.  There has to be a better way!  A semi-trailer will give us space and efficiency we need for this larger band over the long term!  Besides, wouldn’t it be AMAZING to see the Athens Drive semi-trailer at a competition, parade, or even the Outback Bowl?  Can you imagine the boost in the community or the pride in the school to see the semi-trailer on Athens Drive where the band truck currently sits? WOW!!!

There are many expenses involved with making a semi-trailer operational for the band’s purposes: semi-trailer purchase, design the exterior wrapping, paint/wrap the exterior, equip/outfit the interior to suit our needs, install ramps, hire drivers, etc.  Any money beyond the initial $20K will be used for these expenses involved in equipping and owning a semi-trailer.

The Athens Drive High School Band Program is committed to providing an outstanding music education to ANY students in the school’s attendance zone.  The Band Program has a complete compliment of musical offerings including three class ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, Winter Percussion, Winter Guard and of course, an outstanding Marching Band. The Athens Marching Band performs at all home football games, throughout the state and region in band competitions, three local holiday parades, and has taken many special trips for performances throughout the east coast!  This season, the Marching Band will be traveling to Tampa Florida to perform at the Outback Bowl on January 1, 2018!

GoPlaySave Coupon Book Sale Kick Off

posted Jul 18, 2017, 8:55 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 18, 2017, 1:45 PM ]

The 2017-2018 GoPlaySave Coupon Book Fundraiser will kick off on Tuesday, July 25th and will run through Friday, September 8th. The Raleigh GoPlaySave book sells for $30 each.  If our band sells at least 300 books, you will earn a $10 band account credit for each book you sell, and our ADHS Band's general fund will earn $5 per book sold.  In addition, for every 5 books that you sell, you will earn one free book. The GoPlaySave books are full of wonderful money saving coupons to places like Moe's, Dick's, Mellow Mushroom, Kroger, and Lochmere Golf Course. For a list of participating merchants, please see the attached document. These coupon books are easy to sell due to the number and variety of coupons; however, many local schools and businesses also participate in this fundraiser so be sure to get a jump start on sales to your family and friends.
Do you have friends or family living elsewhere in N.C.? Coupon books are also available for purchase through our band's sale for Chapel Hill/Durham ($25), Greensboro/Triad region ($25), and Charlotte ($30).
GoPlaySave also offers a mobile app that can be downloaded from the Google Play store or the iTunes app store.  Using the mobile app you can browse for merchants in your area, access their list of offers, and redeem the coupons directly from your phone.  In order to purchase a mobile book, direct your customers to the following link: . In order for your student to receive credit for mobile book sales, it is very important that you instruct your family and friends to include your student's information as prompted.  In order to make this step easier, you can create your own personal URL by following the link and clicking on the button "Want to help your group sell more books?". Please note that the mobile option is independent of the traditional book and therefore will vary slightly from the printed book (some merchants and additional offers are added throughout the year while some merchants are omitted).
On Tuesday, July 25th we will have a display set up at the BAND PARENT BOOSTER FAIR.  Please plan to pick up your student's fundraiser packet at that time.  If you are unable to attend the Booster Fair,
we will be available in the band hallway to collect money and to pass out additional books as follows:
·         July 26 & 27 from 9:30 to 10:15 pm
·         August 9 & 10 from 6 to 6:30 pm
·         August 16 & 17 from 6 to 6:30 pm
·         August 23 & 24 from 6 to 6:30 pm
·         August 30 from 5 to 5:30 pm
·         August 31 (before the first football game) from 6 to 6:30 pm
·         September 6 from 5 to 5:30 pm
·         September 7 from 5:30 to 6 pm
As you prepare your packets to be turned in, please make sure that all checks are made payable to ADHS Band Boosters with your student's name on the memo line.  Any books that are unsold at the end of the sale must be turned in to us in new condition or your band account will be charged.
Your student does not need to be a member of the marching band in order to participate in this fundraiser.  If your child is in a class band and you would like to participate, please email us at and we will get a packet to you.
One last item to mention...the top seller will receive a $50 gift card to any of the participating merchants. The first three members to sell 10 books will receive a $10 gift card to either Moes, Mellow Mushroom, or Char Grill.  Thank you for supporting our band program through this fundraiser. Happy selling!

SCRIP: The easiest way to bring down your band account balance!

posted Jul 15, 2017, 7:59 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 15, 2017, 8:00 AM ]

Our monthly GREAT LAKES SCRIP ORDER order will be placed WEDNESDAY, JULY 19th! Please have your order ready by midnight that day. The order should be ready for pick up by the Tuesday July 25th Band Parent Meeting. Scrip cards (and grocery cards) are the only band fundraisers that put your everyday spending dollars to work - FREE MONEY!!!  If you aren’t familiar with the Scrip Program and how it can positively change the balance on your band account, read on and be sure to stop by our booth at the Booster Fair on July 25th.

CURRENT SPECIALS:  In addition to offering great contributions on every day gift cards, Scrip runs specials and flash sales on a regular basis.  For example, today Scrip is running a special with  Scrip is also planning Back To School Bonuses from more than 40 retailers
beginning on Saturday, July 22.  These bonuses can help you get a head start on all your back-to-school shopping including clothes, supplies, or other gear for the new school year.  Even if you don’t “need” anything right now, it’s a good time to set up your account so that you can start receiving the email alerts for active specials.  Check out the "What's New" tab to see all the recent listings.

  • WHAT IS SCRIP?  Great Lakes Scrip Center offers gift cards to over 300 of the country’s biggest brands, including grocery, department stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, home improvement, and more. Just by using Scrip to pay for your normal purchases, you can easily bank money to your student band account. It’s time to put your shopping dollars to work! A complete listing of participating companies is available at
  • HOW DOES IT WORK?  Scrip cards are regular gifts cards that you purchase at face value.  The retailer then gives a rebate, usually between 2%-14% of the face value, directly into YOUR band account.  For example, if you purchased a $100 Belk gift card, you pay $100 for the card and have $100 to spend at Belk, then Belk donates 8% ($8.00) to your band account.  Free Money!  You will be amazed and astounded at how quickly it adds up simply by spending money “differently” through Scrip
  • WHAT TYPE OF GIFT CARDS ARE AVAILABLE?  Scrip has three different options for purchasing gift cards.  Many companies offer all 3 gift card options but the options available vary by company.
  1. Physical Gift Cards:  We order these as a Band group once a month.  You order these cards online any time during the month then a Band group order is submitted, typically a week before our monthly band parent meetings.  You can either pay for your cards at the time of ordering using the PrestoPay service or by delivering a check prior to the group order placement.  See below for details on payment methods.  You will receive an email about one week in advance of order placement as a reminder.  A few days later we receive the group’s gift cards and distribute them to you, usually at the monthly Band Booster meeting.  Physical gift cards are great for gifts or for planned (and controlled) spending.
  2. ScripNow E-Card:  Make purchases online or at a physical store or have a meal at a restaurant but hop over to the Scrip website before you pay.  Buy a ScripNow gift card with PrestoPay to use as payment for your purchases.  These cards are available for you to use within minutes of purchase.
  3. Reload:  With re-loadable physical gift cards, you have the flexibility to add money to the gift card anytime using PrestoPay!  These gift cards work well for places you regularly shop.
GETTING STARTED:  Set up your own personal account at and link to the Athens Drive Band Boosters with the enrollment code 3BDECC2F2L1L.  Feel free to call me if you have problems and I will help you through the process.

PrestoPay:  This is the preferred and easiest method of payment.  It is Scrip's secure service to purchase gift cards by using funds directly from your checking account.  Set up PrestoPay from your Scrip account.  Allow 2-3 business days to set up prior to your first scrip order.
Check:  Make your check out to ADHS Band Boosters and deliver it to me before the order date to be included in the monthly order
Any questions or queries, please send to
Happy Shopping!

Summer Pre-Camp Preparations

posted Jul 14, 2017, 12:00 PM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 14, 2017, 12:01 PM ]

We hope that you are all having a great summer.  We are busy making preparations for band camp and regular season activities!

To make sure you are ready, mark your calendars with all the summer rehearsal dates.  Important fall dates have also been set.  Percussion (ADP) and Color Guard (CG) practices began in June - if you are participating in ADP or CG and not receiving email updates, please email or Full marching band practices begin with Pre-Camp starting July 24.  All the dates can be found at:

Please see the checklist below to aid you in your preseason preparations.  More detailed information about what to bring to band camp will be sent later in July. Following are items you can go ahead and begin working on to ensure a smooth start to the upcoming season:

  • Food Allergies and other Dietary Restrictions - E-mail to as soon as possible so that we can properly plan for meals and snacks.  In addition, please make sure to note these items on the Medical Form.  The cafeteria at Wesleyan College offers a wide variety of foods, easily accommodating most diets.  We would be happy to share menus with parents during pre-camp if there are any specific concerns.
DUE FIRST DAY OF PRE-CAMP (July 24, 2017) – Complete, print, and bring the following paperwork:
  • WCPSS Parental Consent & Student Medical Information
  • Student's health insurance card – copy of front and back.  Please attach this to the WCPSS Parental Consent & Medical Information form
  • WCPSS Student Photo Permission Form
  • Outback Bowl Letter of Permission & Medical Release
  • Outback Bowl Waiver and Hold Harmless Agreement
All of these forms can be found at:
*Please look under the heading Marching Band forms and WCPSS Forms

  • Pre-camp Parent Meeting - Tuesday, July 25th at 6:45 p.m. in the band room, followed by the Booster Fair in the cafeteria. At the meeting, we will be going over the final details for camp and answering any questions you might have.  Please make every effort to attend! Following the meeting, please join us in the cafeteria to check out our Booster Fair. Our committee chairs will have informational booths set up to help you find the perfect spot to get involved!
  • Students – Band Camp Roommate Request Form:  During pre-camp students will be given a roommate request form. Due to logistical difficulties with moving beds, we can only assign two students per room.  We will be happy to assist students with finding roommates during pre-camp week and will work with section leaders to find a great fit for everyone!  This form is DUE WEDNESDAY night at the end of the evening.
  • Donations:  Towels, sunscreen, bug spray.  While you are cleaning out the closets over the summer, please save your old towels for the band.  We need lots of old towels to dry off instruments and other equipment, especially if we have wet weather. Band camp is hot, sunny and buggy!  We’d like for everyone to bring their own sunscreen and bug spray, but inevitably we need more!  Any donations are very much appreciated!
One last reminder, it’s not too early to earn money for your band account!  Meet other band families by working at the NCFC games this summer.  Visit the band website at:, click on the orange volunteer signup button.
There are many opportunities so see what works for your schedule.  Also, you can earn money for your band account by buying Lowes Foods (6%) or Food Lion (5%) grocery cards, click on the link: for more information.  Earn free money for your account when you buy Scrip cards for stores like, Old Navy, Home Depot, Panera and many more! Just go to the link
for more information.

Also, we are attaching a checklist for your convenience.
We are looking forward to seeing you at pre-camp!  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Chaperones Required for Pre-Camp

posted Jul 13, 2017, 7:12 AM by Athens Drive High School Band   [ updated Jul 13, 2017, 7:13 AM ]

Can you believe Marching Band Season is less than 2 weeks away?? Making life long friends, feelings of pride as you watch your freshman student march down Jaquar Park drive for their first football game, amazing music, a brand new stadium, wowing us at all the competitions!!! This is what we have to look forward to in the next few months!! Can’t wait!

Your first opportunity to get a glimpse of this year’s program is coming up July 24-27. We need parents who are willing to chaperone Pre-Camp practices. This is such a pleasant way to serve the band. Bring your lawn chair and a water bottle and watch this year’s marching band take shape. We need percussion parents to chaperone from 2-5pm and then we need parents from winds, guard and percussion to chaperone from 6:30-10:00pm. You just need to report to the band hallway to find out where the kids will be practicing. Don’t forget to register as a volunteer with Wake County if you plan to chaperone. If you are currently a registered volunteer with WCPSS your volunteer status is active until July 31st.  You will need to renew your volunteer registration for the new school year beginning on August 1st. It only takes 5 minutes and can be done at a Wake County School library.

If you can chaperone, please click here:
Then, click on the link for Marching Band Chaperone Signups.

PLEASE NOTE - there is a "parent pre-camp meeting & booster fair" being held on July 25th  at 6.30-8.30pm, so if you are a new band parent or just want to attend this event, please avoid signing up for this time slot. Thanks.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at
We look forward to meeting you freshmen parents and can’t wait to catch up with all the rest of you!!
