Big Al's is a local BBQ restaurant and catering business located in North Raleigh. During the NC State Fair and various other times throughout the year, Big Al's operates a large outdoor BBQ pavilion. During these events, our band provides staffing as a fundraising opportunity for our program.

As with all band fundraiser events, you will receive a confirmation email after signing up. Please note, if any changes are made to the shift schedule or this fundraiser in general, you will be notified by email.


Staffing Needs: adults and students 16+ w/parent (parent must accompany any student working)

Duties: table busser, food plating, servers, drinks and cashier 

Band Account Credits:  Adults $9/hr    Students $7/hr    5 to 6 hours per shift

Fundraiser Shift Credits:  not available

Cancellation Policy: If an emergency arises, you are responsible for finding a replacement. If you cancel within 3 days of your shift and do not find a replacement, your band account will be charged the amount that you would have made had you worked the shift. Please understand, when people do not show up for their shift, it affects both the business owner, workers at the stand and anyone who wanted to work, but could not find a slot.

Admission:  included 

Uniform:  Big Al's will provide sanitary gloves and apron. Wear a ball cap and t-shirt of  choice (including ADHS Band) and closed toed shoes.

  • During NC State Fair:  free parking shuttles available at multiple locations, a few slots available at Gregory Poole Lot (closest location to Main Gate and Big Al's Tent) and car pool (similar to PNC/NC State games).  
  • During Got To Be NC:  park in 'Dorton Triangle' near the Dorton Arena, waterfall and midway area of fairgrounds.
Orientation: All shift volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation prior to the event. The orientation will be run by Big Al's and will detail expectations and provide t-shirt for your shifts. No food training or other certification needed.
